YOUR Academy moves to Transcend: a more modern way to become a Personal Trainer

The role of a Personal Trainer has changed considerably. The way we train, the conversations clients are having about their health, and the science shaping the fitness industry are moving faster than ever. PT education needs to move with them.

That is why YOUR Academy, the education arm of YOUR Personal Training, has moved its qualification provision from Active IQ to Transcend Awards, an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation, through a Recognised Centre relationship. This applies to the Transcend Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing and the Transcend Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. Both qualifications are included in the PT Career Accelerator, which adds a guaranteed self-employed placement with YOUR Personal Training across 420+ UK gyms, and in PT Essentials.

The change is about more than working with a different awarding organisation. The Recognised Centre relationship gives us scope to shape a learning experience that is more accessible, engaging and closely aligned with the way people learn and work today, while operating within the qualifications' approved requirements and Transcend's quality-assurance arrangements. The integrity and required delivery and assessment standards of the regulated qualifications will continue to be maintained.

For anyone considering a career in fitness, this really matters.

Training for the job that exists now

A PT qualification should give you far more than the knowledge required to pass an assessment. It should prepare you for the conversations, challenges and opportunities you will encounter when you start working with real people.

Modern Personal Trainers are coaching clients in a landscape that looks very different from the fitness industry of even five years ago. Understanding exercise programming remains fundamental, but today's PT also needs a much broader awareness of the factors influencing a client's health, behaviour, expectations and relationship with exercise, not to mention the importance of building a successful business and the key tools newly qualified PTs need to do this.

Our delivery of the Transcend Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training now explores the menstrual cycle and the considerations it can create when coaching female clients. We also address the rapidly growing use of GLP-1 medications and what this changing weight-management landscape could mean for Personal Trainers, from conversations around muscle retention and strength to the different expectations clients may bring into the gym.

Working with Transcend through this Recognised Centre relationship gives YOUR Academy greater scope to evolve how approved course content is brought to life, while remaining within the qualification specification, assessment requirements and Transcend's quality-assurance arrangements. One example is our in-person workshops, which are designed to prepare PTs for the realities of the industry rather than relying solely on written responses, giving learners opportunities to put their knowledge into practice in realistic situations and environments and become better equipped to adapt in the moment.

This collaboration allows us to develop a learning journey that combines the essential technical foundations of regulated PT education with accessible ways to learn, demonstrate knowledge and apply it in practice, while continuing to meet the approved requirements of the qualifications.

It also means we can think more intelligently about how learners are prepared for assessment. Within the qualifications' approved assessment requirements, we can build the wider learning experience around what a future fitness professional genuinely needs to understand and demonstrate, while maintaining the required assessment standards and the integrity of the regulated qualifications.

For someone taking their first step into the industry with the Transcend Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing, or progressing to the Transcend Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, the result is education designed to feel relevant from the moment you start learning to the moment you start working with clients.

YOUR Personal Training works across the fitness industry every day. We recruit, support and work alongside Personal Trainers in facilities across the UK, which gives us a clear view of what operators want, what clients need and where the profession is heading. That perspective and excellence should be reflected in the education we provide.

Active IQ has been an established part of the fitness qualification landscape for many years and has supported thousands of people entering the sector. Our decision to work with Transcend as an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation reflects the next stage of YOUR Academy's development and our ambition to have greater creative input into the learner experience, within the approved qualification requirements and Transcend's quality-assurance framework.

Whether you are considering the Transcend Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing, ready to progress to the Transcend Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, or looking to specialise through CPD, YOUR Academy's approach is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence and practical understanding to build a career in today's fitness industry, while maintaining the integrity, delivery requirements and assessment standards expected of regulated qualifications.
